The Old Malt Cask Strathmill 32yo Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Single Malt Scotch

£299.95

From Strathmill in the Speyside region, this single malt Scotch whisky has floral aromas with honeysuckle and orange blossom, vanilla, and lemon with flavours of grapefruit and herbal tea. The finish is long, and gentle with lingering honey and citrus. This whisky had been distilled in May 1990 and allowed to mature for 32 years in single refill hogshead, until it was bottled up in October 2022. Only 29 bottles were produced.

As one of the most established brands in the single cask market, Old Malt Cask is trusted by thousands of Malt Whisky consumers all around the world as the selection which bottles some of the most noteworthy Scotches in the market. Each month, the Hunter Laing tasting panel reviews the company stocks and, after careful consideration, selects only the casks which are of the highest quality. Whether the whisky was distilled in Speyside or Islay, the Lowlands, or the Islands, they all have one thing in common – they have been bottled at exactly the right time to capture the unique characteristics of the cask. Invariably bottled at 50% strength to maintain drinkability, each new expression is non-chill filtered to ensure that the personality of each cask remains.

As the Laing family have been in the Scotch Whisky business for more than three generations, the company has acquired not only a great deal of experience but, just as importantly, vast stocks of some of the most sought-after whiskies in Scotland. The Estate works with some of the best cooperages in Scotland and the US, along with some of Spain’s most illustrious bodegas to acquire steady supplies of top-quality ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks. The casks are shipped to Scotland and then sent to the various distilleries to be filled with new-make spirit. Once filled, the Hunter Laing casks are left to age in the best conditions possible, either at the distilleries in question or at their warehouses in Glasgow. The cool, damp climate of the west of Scotland lends itself particularly well to the maturation of whisky. Our Master Blender regularly checks our stocks so that he is completely familiar with all of them as they mature and evolve. A large proportion of our output is blended whisky which involves nosing each Malt and Grain individually and sending casks in batches according to a particular recipe.
