Stauning Rye Whisky Dirty Bastard Research Series

Danish Single Rye Whisky

£74.95

Double-distilled rye whisky aged in old mezcal casks, made purely of local ingredients, malted on the floor at Stauning Distillery and double-distilled in flame-heated pot stills.
It has a nose of sweet pipe tobacco smoke, raisins, oat biscuit, citrus, and oak, with a palate of vanilla, tobacco, barley, dried fruit, cinnamon, brown sugar, molasses, and shortbread and a long, sweet finish with a slightly smoky, salty hints and hues of brown sugar and pepper.
After being matured between 3-4 years in Virgin American Oak, it has been rounded off with at least 6 months ageing in Mezcal casks from Mexican Oro de Oaxaca.

Outside the small village of Stauning, the team is making whisky the Stauning way: Local grains, floor malting and direct-fired small pot stills. That's how Stauning whisky best reflect the surroundings by the West Coast: the wind, the soil, the crops, the water, and the peat.
The Story of Stauning Whisky begins on a weekend trip in Denmark in May 2005. While enjoying a glass of single malt scotch whisky, four engineers, a teacher, a chef, a butcher, a pilot, and a doctor began to wonder why no one in Denmark makes whisky. The Danish climate, quality barley and pure water covers all the requirements. Therefore, nine friends started out on this new hobby, a hobby that soon became a full-time job. With different backgrounds being the distillery’s strength throughout the work involved in setting up the distillery right from scratch; Stauning Whisky is now the only active Danish whisky production that only uses malted Danish barley and malted Danish rye, while using copper pot stills for distillation. The team uses local Danish barley and rye, and they floor malt themselves. From great respect for the whisky production in Scotland, Stauning has chosen to follow their historical production principles. In this way, the team ensures that Stauning Whisky is truly unique. Both the only one of its kind, and a whisky with high quality, character, and history.
