Paternoster Vulcanico Falanghina
£17.95
Straw yellow with brilliant green reflections. Intense and persistent on the nose with sensations of delicate white flowers and fruit. Fresh and balanced on the palate, with nuances of tropical melon, wet stone, a spritz of lime and crushed yellow apple that form an attractive bouquet with a clean finish. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks, the wine is then aged in stainless steel tanks in contact with its lees for about 5 months.
Ideal as an aperitif, it can also accompany various types of antipasti, plates of simple fish and vegetables as well as fresh cheeses.
The founder, Anselmo Paternoster (1898), was a pioneer of Italian viticulture, and a decorated war hero who is still honoured today on the winery's flagship label, Don Anselmo. However, it was his charismatic son, Pino, who would shape the future of the winery. He may have been the first studied oenologist in Basilicata and wasted no time bringing innovations, like wood aging. As a brilliant advocate of the region, he also brought recognition to Aglianico del Vulture at the first Vinitaly and onward. In turn, he was an avid writer and correspondent for wine publications and lobbied for the creation of the Aglianico DOC in the 1970s. His legacy lives on in Paternoster's wines which continue to express an artisan spirit that respects tradition in its highest form to shape the future of these premium wines. Since entering as a majority stakeholder in 2016, the family continues to maintain the spirit and legacy of the brand bringing their commercial savvy to consolidate the distribution and recognition of Paternoster wines. In this partnership, Paternoster share its commitment to sustainability, and the Vulture, one of Italy's great winemaking regions.
