Fritz Willi Riesling Feinherb

£12.95

A luscious off-dry Riesling with fragrant aromas of ripe apricot and citrus along with a saline minerality and a clean palate. The Riesling grapes are sourced from the steep slatey soils of the Saar and Mosel. After careful picking and selection, the grapes are fermented in oak Fuder and stainless steel - both parts blended later to add complexity. The wine rests on its fine lees before bottling.

Great with pasta, grilled fish, and light dishes such as poultry or Asian cuisine.

Friedrich Wilhelm Gymnasium Winery is a historic German wine estate located in Trier, the country’s oldest city. Established in 1561 by the Jesuits to fund the city's first secondary school, the estate has been producing wine for over four centuries. The estate encompasses approximately 30 hectares of steep, slate-soiled vineyards across all three major Mosel subregions: the Mosel, Saar, and Ruwer valleys. Winemaking is traditional and meticulous. Approximately 40% of the wines undergo spontaneous fermentation in large oak casks known as Fuder, a practice that imparts depth and aging potential. The remaining wines are fermented in stainless steel to preserve freshness and fruit character. The winery's origins are deeply intertwined with Trier's educational history. Notably, philosopher Karl Marx graduated from the school in 1835. The estate's cellars, dating back to 1593, continue to serve as the maturation site for the wines, blending centuries-old tradition with modern winemaking techniques. The winery's offerings include a range of Rieslings, from dry to sweet, reflecting the diverse terroirs of the Mosel region. Their wines are celebrated for their minerality, balance, and aging potential, embodying the rich history and craftsmanship of the estate.
