Domaine Michel Briday Bouzeron Cuvee Axelle
£21.95
Pale gold with green tints. In Bouzeron, the Aligoté grape produces dry, fruity wines. The freshness of the white flower (hawthorn) aromas is remarkable. On the palate, the minerality, specific to the Bouzeron terroir, is coated with fruit flavours (white peaches, pears). The wine is crisp and lively, with an amazing roundness on the finish.
After manual harvesting, the grapes are pressed immediately with care. Fermentation starts naturally (without the addition of yeast) in the vat. Maturation is also carried out in vats to preserve all the freshness of the grape variety.
Ideal with fatty fish.
The village of Bouzeron cultivates its difference: the Aligoté grape variety. It is the only village appellation in Burgundy to grow it. Domaine Briday's vineyard plots are located at the top of the hillside and boast a white marl soil that is particularly well-suited to Aligoté. The earth here is of medium depth but compact. The vines have an average age of 50 years.
Stéphane Briday, who is now in charge, personifies the domaine today just as his father did before him, when taking up the challenge of creating a wine domaine in Burgundy in the 1970s. Michel Briday started out with 6 hectares of vines on a sharecropping and vineyard rental basis; supported by the conviction that he’d succeed, and by the sweat of his brow and that of his wife.
Today, the domaine runs to 13,7 hectares. Stéphane and his wife have taken over the responsibility for the domaine in their stride, stamping their own mark on things, with the same ambition as the first generation.
