Berton vineyards Winemakers Reserve Durif

Australian Durif

£15.50

Intense aromas of violets, blackberry and subtle chocolate notes are showcased in this inky, dark Durif. Notes of blackberry, anise and smoky liquorice fill the concentrated palate, while the well-integrated mocha-oak influence and tight tannins add complexity and depth, through to a long, flavoursome finish. Aged in French oak for approximately four months, giving a subtle and delicate oak influence. Maturation lasted a further six months in tank before bottling.

Ideal with grilled meats, charcuterie and hard cheese.

Durif, a cross between Syrah and Peloursin, is also known as Petite Sirah. This particular Durif comes from the Foleys Corner Vineyard in the Riverina region of New South Wales, an area known for its hot, dry climate.

Berton Vineyard, established in 1996 by Bob and Cherie Berton, is located in the Gundagai region of New South Wales, Australia, at an elevation of 350 meters above sea level. The estate spans 30 hectares on gently rolling hills overlooking the Murrumbidgee River. Known for its premium wines, including the Reserve Shiraz and Chardonnay, the vineyard benefits from a continental climate with 706mm of annual rainfall and rich, quartz-speckled alluvial soils. In 2007, Bob expanded the operation by acquiring the Yenda winery in the Riverina, allowing for the production of both premium and value-for-money wines. The estate's vines are planted on their own rootstocks, further enhancing the wine quality.
